Nigeria: Bandits Kill 3, Abduct Woman in Sokoto Community

24 February 2026

At least three residents were killed and a woman abducted during a midnight attack by bandits on Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Sources who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said the attackers stormed the village at about 1.20am on Monday.

A resident said the gunmen outsmarted locals and infiltrated the community before launching the attack. They also overpowered local vigilantes.

"We normally receive security alerts from neighbouring communities, but this time, we were not informed. The three persons killed were men, and a woman was kidnapped during the raid," he said.

Residents expressed concern over what they described as inadequate security presence in the area, calling on the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to protect their communities.

They alleged that calls for reinforcement went unanswered, claiming that security operatives are stationed far from the village.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufai, and the Chairman of Isa LGA, Sharehu Abubakar Kamarawa, were unsuccessful, as calls to their phone lines were not answered at the time of filing this report.
