Nigeria: 2 Nabbed As Edo Govt Demolishes Building Linked to Cultists

23 February 2026

The Edo State Special Security Squad, codenamed "Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers," has arrested two suspected cultists at a building in the Amagba area of Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The spokesperson for the squad, Mr. Eribo Enwanta, stated that the suspects were arrested in connection with recent killings in Benin City.

He noted that the individuals, alleged to be members of the Aye Confraternity, were apprehended at a building in the Amagba community, while five others managed to escape.

According to Enwanta, the house where the suspects were arrested was subsequently demolished by the state government.

He added that the demolition exercise was led by the Principal Security Officer to the Governor.

"Two suspected Aye members were arrested in connection with recent cult killings in the state, while five others escaped, and the building was demolished," Enwanta said.

He further stated that the Governor has mandated the squad to arrest violators of the state's anti-cultism law and that they will execute that mandate regardless of who is involved.

Additionally, the spokesperson disclosed that the squad sealed off a residence in the Upper Uwa area of Benin, identified as the last known address of a suspected member of the Maphite Confraternity. The individual is alleged to be the mastermind and financier behind last week's fatal shootings at Wire Road.
