23 February 2026

Engineer Chukwudi Chidi Abuoemena, Managing Director/CEO of Vagan Oil & Gas Ltd and founder of the Abuoemena Foundation, has been nominated for the African Humanitarian Award at the 4th AFRIHeritage Awards, to be held in Accra, Ghana on 11 April 2026.

The nomination recognizes his sustained commitment to humanitarian service and measurable social impact across Nigeria.

A civil engineer with more than two decades of leadership in the energy sector, Engr. Abuoemena has translated corporate success into focused, results-driven corporate social responsibility initiatives. Under his stewardship, Vagan Oil & Gas Ltd and the Abuoemena Foundation have delivered strategic interventions in Lagos, Rivers and Imo states -- restoring access to critical health services, easing financial burdens on vulnerable families and strengthening local health systems.

One flagship initiative, the Medical Bill Support Programme, cleared outstanding hospital bills for vulnerable patients at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, General Hospital Gbagada, General Hospital Ikorodu and Rivers State General Hospital. The programme provided support across general wards as well as cancer and newborn units, directly enabling lifesaving treatment and relieving families facing crippling medical expenses.
