The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) is seeking clarification on job security concerning President Bola Tinubu's recent Executive Order directing the restructuring of oil and gas revenue remittances to the Federation Account and removing the 30 percent management fee previously retained by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, on oil and gas profits
Tinubu last Wednesday gave the Executive Order directing the direct remittance of royalty oil, tax oil, and profit oil to the Federation Account.
Reacting on Sunday, President of NUPENG, Prince Williams Akporeha, told journalists there was the need for the government to state whether the order will affect job security, conditions of service, collective bargaining agreements, or ongoing restructuring processes within the industry.
He also urged the government to clarify the effects of the order on indigenous participation and local content development, particularly how it will influence Nigerian companies and employment opportunities for citizens.

He further sought clarity on the order's implications for the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), adding that Nigerians need to know scope and objectives of the executive order, and the precise reforms or adjustments it introduced.
He expressed that without proper consultation and explanation, misinterpretations of the Executive Order may spread across the industry, potentially destabilizing operations and undermining the industrial harmony that stakeholders have worked hard to sustain.
He added: "We firmly believe that a timely stakeholders' meeting--bringing together organized labour, regulatory agencies, operators, host community representatives, and other critical actors--will help douse rising tension, address misconceptions, and foster transparency and trust in government policy.
"Though our Union remains committed to constructive engagement, national development, and the stability of the oil and gas sector, however we are duty and constitutionally bound to protect the rights, welfare and job security of our members whose livelihoods depend on clear, fair and predictable policy frameworks.
"We therefore respectfully urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate steps to engage stakeholders and provide the necessary clarifications in the interest of industrial peace, economic stability, and national progress."
