Nigeria: Ombugadu Dumps PDP

Former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, Rt. Hon. David Ombugadu, has resigned from the party.

In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of PDP, Ika Wangibi Ward, Nasarawa Eggon LGA, Ombugadu said internal conflicts and leadership crisis has forced him out of the opposition party.

According to him, the prevailing situation has made his political path unclear an after due consultations with his supporters, he decided to make the move.

Part of the letter said, "After due consultations with my teeming supporters, i arrived at this difficult decision which was prompted by the party's internal conflicts and leadership tussle that has led to uncertainty"

He said the ongoing situation in the PDP which has given rise to two factions has made his "political destination hazy, thereby warranting a solid and clear political path."

While expressing his gratitude to the party for giving him the platform to serve the country and state, Ombugadu expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity and officially notified the party of his immediate withdrawal as a member.

Daily Trust had reported how PDP stakeholders in Lafia, Nasarawa State, had urged Ombugadu to re-contest the 2027 governorship election, however, his sudden resignation from party has changed the dynamics.

Even though Ombugadu was yet to disclose his next political destination, sources in the state said the former PDP stalwart is heading to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) where he is likely to contest either the Nasarawa North Senate seat or the gubernatorial election in 2027.
