Nigeria: Enugu - Two Neighbourhood Watch Members Killed, Others Abducted in Failed Kidnapping

4 March 2026

Suspected kidnappers attempting to abduct a Catholic Parish Priest in Aguibeje, Enugu Ezike, have killed two members of the Enugu Neighbourhood Watch Group and seriously injured another.

The attackers also abducted a man, Patrick Eze, and his daughter from Umu Ossai clan early Saturday morning in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Security sources said the assailants had invaded the Parish House, prompting the priest to raise the alarm. Neighbourhood Watch operatives responded, leading to a gunfight in which two operatives were killed, while some of the kidnappers reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.

Family sources said the kidnappers forced their way into Patrick Eze's residence, demanded and consumed food, and then abducted him and his daughter while fleeing toward the bush between Aguibeje and Kogi State.

As of press time, the kidnappers have not contacted the victims' families or made any ransom demands.
