African Development Bank Group's (AfDB) newly appointed Country Manager for Uganda, Themba Bhebhe, has presented his Letter of Accreditation to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Abubaker Jeje Odongo, marking the start of his official engagement in the country.

Welcoming the new AfDB country manager on 25 February 2026 in Kampala, Minister Odongo highlighted the Bank's strong partnership with Uganda, reiterating the significance of its longstanding support, which has seen total investments of $ 5.2 billion since 1968, when the institution became active in Uganda. Odongo further expressed the government's expectations of continued collaboration to advance national development priorities.

Speaking on behalf of Dr Sidi Ould Tah, President of the African Development Bank Group, Bhebhe expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership and reaffirmed the Bank's commitment to supporting Uganda's development aspirations.

The African Development Bank Group's engagement in Uganda spans a range of strategic sectors, including investments in transport infrastructure to enhance regional connectivity, boost energy access, and support agricultural and rural development programmes to strengthen climate resilience and improve value chains. The Bank Group also supported the Education sector, Water and sanitation, and provided emergency assistance, including support for flood-affected areas in late 2025.

Before his new appointment, Bhebhe served as the Bank's Country Manager for South Sudan, bringing extensive experience in advancing development initiatives across the region.
