Nigeria: Bala Mohammed, Saraki to Lead PDP Reconciliation Committee

18 March 2026

The Governor of Bauchi State Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki are being positioned to lead the reconciliation meeting towards resolving the differences between the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Daily Trust understands that both camps have been communicating on an informal level and a full reconciliation process will commence after the Sallah Festivities.

The PDP has been embroiled in crisis since the conduct of the November 15th and 16th elective National Convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

The PDP Governors led by Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo had endorsed the Ibadan convention which elected Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and other members of the National Working Committee.

The development also led to the handover of leadership from former National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to Turaki before Damagum's tenure ended on December 9, 2025.

However, immediately after the convention which expelled the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies, they also announced the constitution of their own National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

However, following the last court of appeal judgement which nullified the Ibadan Convention, the two camps have decide to seek reconciliation championed by the Board of Trustees under the leadership of Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.

Meanwhile, a source close to one of the factions told Daily Trust that the seven member reconciliation team put together by the Dr Tanimu Turaki faction met yesterday, Tuesday to put down their demands before meeting the Wike faction.

He said while the Bauchi Governor is expected to led the Turaki faction to the committee, Saraki has been chosen by the Wike faction to lead their own committee.

The source said the two camps will meet after the Sallah Festivities to harmonise their position which will be forwarded to the Appeal Court in Ibadan to ratify and will be binding on members.

The source said, "The reconciliation committee was expected to meet today, Tuesday, but the meeting is no longer taking place. The meeting taking place now is the seven man committee put together by the PDP Governors, the committee is led by Governor Bala Mohammed.

"They are already putting together their own demands. The Wike faction will also meet and put their own demands together. After Sallah, the two committee will meet to harmonise."

He disclosed that anything the two committees agree will be binding on all members of the PDP and they can now move from there.
