Nigeria: Army Chief Urges Discipline, Sacrifice Among Troops

23 March 2026

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on Nigerian Army officers and soldiers to uphold unity, discipline, and sacrifice in every aspect of service.

He made the call during a special Eid-el-Fitr luncheon for frontline troops within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility in Katsina State.

Speaking on his behalf, Commander of the Infantry Corps and Centre, Major General Godwin Mutkut, noted that the devotion and self-discipline of Ramadan mirror the ethos of military service.

The COAS paid tribute to fallen heroes and commended deployed troops for their resilience, assuring them of ongoing efforts to improve living conditions, professional development, and support systems for soldiers and their families.

Major General Paul Koughna, GOC 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, described the luncheon as timely for boosting troop morale, commending soldiers for their sacrifices in combating criminal elements.

Representing Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Muazu Nasiru Danmusa, praised the military's dedication to restoring peace, assuring continued government support in welfare and logistics while urging troops to remain disciplined, courageous, and resolute in their duties.
