Nigeria: Bayelsa Schedules April 2027 for LG Polls

The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) has fixed April 3, 2027, for the conduct of chairmanship and councillorship elections in the eight local government areas of the state.

BYSIEC Chairman, Dr. Peter Singabele, who disclosed this during a stakeholders' meeting held at the commission's conference room in Yenagoa, also stated that the elections would be free, fair and credible.

He urged all registered political parties to organize their internal party congresses in accordance with the commission's timetable to chose their candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions.

He said according the timetable, the notice of election takes effect from March 23, 2026.

He said: "Consequently, all registered political parties are hereby notified to organise their internal party congresses in accordance with the commission's timetable to select their preferred candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship positions."
