- The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) has fixed April 3, 2027, for the conduct of chairmanship and councillorship elections across the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State.

Chairman of the commission, Peter Singabele, announced the date during a stakeholders' meeting at the commission's headquarters in Yenagoa, assuring that the polls would be free, fair, credible, and conclusive.

"In compliance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, notice is hereby given that local government elections in Bayelsa State shall take place on April 3, 2027, across all eight local government areas," Singabele said.

He urged registered political parties to conduct their internal congresses in line with the commission's timetable to nominate candidates for the elections.

According to the timetable, the notice of election takes effect from March 23, 2026.

Singabele further assured that the commission would collaborate with relevant stakeholders and sustain consultations to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The meeting was attended by members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), representatives of security agencies, and journalists.
