The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed two armoured vehicles and personnel from the National Police Operations Directorate to Nkwanta South Municipality to reinforce security following renewed violent attacks.

He urged residents to support security agencies with credible information and cautioned against misinformation that could inflame tensions.

Meanwhile, the Oti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Alex Acquah, visited the municipality with senior officers to assess the situation.

Five people, three males and two females, were found dead at separate locations in the municipality. The bodies were discovered by a joint team of police, military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Defence Intelligence and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) personnel.

Schools in the area have been closed indefinitely since last Wednesday due to the escalating violence.

This was contained in a statement issued in Dambai by the Oti Regional Police Command and signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Nchor.

He said investigations had begun to determine the circumstances surrounding the attacks and identify the perpetrators.

He urged personnel to remain vigilant, disciplined and professional.

Mr Acquah also led a joint security delegation to the Zongo community to commiserate with residents following recent deaths. The team later visited Dadaga, where two people were killed in an earlier arson attack.

Although calm has been restored, some residents are reportedly fleeing the area for safety as security agencies continue to monitor developments.
