Nigeria: Ekiti Guber - We'll Run Inclusive Campaign to Deliver 500,000 Votes - Senate Leader

The Senate Leader and chairman of the Ekiti State 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has said the council will run an inclusive, transparent, credible, and well-coordinated campaign aimed at delivering no fewer than 500,000 votes in the forthcoming governorship and presidential elections.

Bamidele stated this on Wednesday during the council's meeting in Ado-Ekiti, saying the campaign would be driven by a clear structure that prioritises grassroots mobilisation and effective engagement across all segments of the electorate to ensure the party's message resonates widely.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the Senate Leader disclosed that all six members of the House of Representatives from the state have been appointed as federal constituency coordinators across the six federal constituencies in Ekiti.

He added that the council would adopt a focused and issue-based campaign approach, highlighting the achievements of the current administration while presenting a forward-looking agenda to the people of the state.

Stressing that full-scale campaigns would commence soon, Bamidele also said the campaign council had been carefully constituted to ensure broad representation across the state and effective grassroots reach.

He expressed confidence in the performance of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, noting that the administration's track record would serve as a major selling point during the campaign. He said the achievements recorded by the governor would resonate with the electorate and translate into massive support at the polls.

Bamidele maintained that the strategies already put in place would not only secure victory for the governor but also set a benchmark for campaign organisation and electoral success in the state.

"We want to run an inclusive political campaign that will not only deliver the governor as the party's candidate but also prepare the state for subsequent elections.

"We are not just planning to run a campaign; we are planning to run a fanfare that will also help stimulate the average voter in Ekiti State. The governor has also emphasised the need to run his campaign in a way that will prepare the people for the presidential election, National Assembly elections, as well as the House of Assembly election," Bamidele said.

In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji said he was satisfied with the progress recorded so far by the campaign council, noting that the efforts of the council and party stakeholders had laid a solid foundation for a successful election.

He commended the strategic planning and grassroots mobilisation already underway, describing them as key drivers that would strengthen the party's outreach and engagement with voters across the state.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, said the target is to ensure the governor records a landslide victory, adding that securing less than 500,000 votes in the governorship and presidential elections would fall short of expectations.

He emphasised that the campaign machinery had been structured to cover all wards and local government areas, ensuring robust mobilisation and effective voter engagement at the grassroots.
