Nigeria: Kwara Gov Denies Submitting Speaker's Name to Tinubu

The Kwara State Government has denied reports that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has submitted the name of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The denial follows viral online reports in the state claiming that the Governor has endorsed the Speaker and forwarded his name to the President as part of early succession moves.

The claims have gained traction within political circles, amid insinuations that the governor is backing the Speaker on grounds of "fairness and equity," given that the district has yet to produce a governor since 1999. Speaking penultimate week during the APC state congress in Ilọrin, AbdulRazaq dismissed suggestions of backing any aspirant, stating that the race remains open.

Reinforcing the governor's position, his Special Adviser on Media, Alhaji Bashir Adigun, in a statement on Tuesday, described the report as false and politically motivated.

He also urged aspirants to pursue their ambitions through legitimate political engagement rather than speculation.
