Nigeria: Kebbi PDP Rep Defects to APC Over Leadership Crisis

A member of the House of Representatives for Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza federal constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the lingering leadership crisis in the opposition party.

In a statement he issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi yesterday, Mohammed said the PDP had been grappling with unresolved leadership challenges and prolonged litigations, which have weakened its capacity to function as a credible political platform.

He said the situation within the party had made it increasingly difficult for committed members to effectively contribute to its growth and democratic responsibilities.

He further disclosed that, following wide consultations with his constituents and key political stakeholders, he had decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the decision to joined the APC was taken in the best interest of his constituents and to enhance his ability to deliver effective representation.

He confirmed that his resignation letter has been duly submitted to the PDP ward chairman in Nasarawa 1 Ward, Birnin Kebbi under Birnin Kebbi local government area of Kebbi State while the Speaker of the House of Representatives has also been formally notified of his defection.
