Nigeria: 2027 - Governors' Endorsement of Tinubu Won't Change Anything - - Adc Reps Aspirant

16 April 2026

The African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress) House of Representatives aspirant for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Ambassador Lotanna Ikebunwa, has dismissed recent endorsements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by state governors, describing them as politically insignificant.

Ikebunwa said the endorsements amount to personal decisions by political office holders and do not reflect the position of Nigerians, whom he claimed are more interested in a change of leadership.

He stated this during the inauguration of the ADC Good Governance Initiative programme held at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi.

According to him, despite widespread political alignments at the state level, many citizens are increasingly distancing themselves from ruling party structures due to economic hardship.

"The endorsement of Tinubu by governors is personal to them because the people are not with them. Nigerians are clamouring for change," he said.

The former Students Union Government president and former speaker of Nnewi North Local Government Legislature expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the 2027 election, saying he enjoys strong support across stakeholders, traders, youths, women and students.

He criticised the performance of the current representative of the constituency, alleging poor representation and lack of developmental impact.

He also argued that the constituency had fallen behind others in terms of empowerment programmes and federal presence.

"We are lagging behind in everything. There is no clean water, no federal presence, and no meaningful support for the business community in Nnewi," he said.

Ikebunwa further stated that he had personally supported the party structure by providing and furnishing ward offices for the ADC to strengthen its grassroots operations.

He said his initiative had helped boost party membership and improved coordination at the local level.

During the inauguration, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Ibeokonkwo Michael, expressed confidence that Ikebunwa would secure the ADC ticket and represent the constituency at the National Assembly in 2027.
