Women in Mining Africa (WiM-Africa) has stated that Africa's mineral wealth must be measured not only by production and revenues, but by outcomes for women and communities.
In a statement to announce the official side event of WiM-Africa at the 12th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12), Executive Director of Women in Mining Africa, Dr. Comfort Asokoro-Ogaji, said the programme under the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), will focus on advancing dialogue around the Africa Responsible Minerals & Gender Index (ARMGI).
According to her, "Africa's mineral wealth must be measured not only by production and revenues, but by outcomes for women and communities. ARMGI seeks to help move us from commitments to measurable impact."
She said the programme held under the theme: "Advancing Gender-Responsive Mineral Governance and Measurable Host Community Outcomes through ARMGI," will bring together representatives from African institutions, private sector leaders, development partners, environmental actors and civil society to explore practical pathways for translating mineral governance commitments into implementation results.
