Nigeria: Female Guber Aspirant Emerges in Gombe

29 April 2026

Hajiya Sa'adatu Sa'ad Mustapha, popularly known as Alkebbar Kaltungo has formally declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter dated April 16, 2026, and acknowledged by the APC State Secretariat on April 17, Hajiya Sa'adatu officially notified the party leadership of her decision to seek its ticket for the state's top political office.

She said her governorship ambition is driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

She pledged to focus on key sectors such as education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure development, economic growth, and security if given the mandate.

She also promised to uphold the principles of the APC, including transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and people-centred governance.

Political observers say her entry into the race adds a new dimension to the 2027 governorship contest in Gombe State, particularly as she emerges among the few female aspirants in the field.

Her candidacy is already generating discussions around gender inclusion and expanded participation of women in elective political offices.
