Liberia: Up Dreams of Holding Power for 200 Years

- The National Chairman of the ruling Unity Party has expressed confidence that the party will govern Liberia for more than 200 years, citing its continued dominance in the country's political landscape.

Reverend Luther Tarpeh made the statement at the launch of a joint two-year strategic plan by the Unity Party National Cadets' Unit (UPNC) and the Tertiary Education Students' Confederation (TESCON), held in Monrovia over the weekend.

According to him, President Joseph Boakai is focused on building the Unity Party beyond his own tenure, ensuring its long-term strength and sustainability.

"The vision is to see the Unity Party in the next century stronger, more powerful, and governing longer than the True Whig Party," Tarpeh said.

Also speaking at the event, Unity Party National Secretary Amos Tweh encouraged members of UPNC and TESCON to sacrifice their time and energy in service of the party.

Mr. Tweh noted that many senior members of the party's National Executive Committee currently occupy key government positions as a result of years of commitment and sacrifice.

"Once you work hard for the party, the possibility of gaining leadership responsibility is high," he said. He added that the Unity Party remains a political organization where anyone can rise to prominence through dedication.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of UPNC and TESCON, Lansanah Fofanah, said the two organizations aim to begin training members and emerging leaders from high schools and universities across Liberia.

Mr. Fofanah disclosed plans to expand membership to approximately 85,000 students nationwide.

The program, held under the theme "Three Years of Preparing to Take Over with Selfless Sacrifice and Commitment to the Unity Party," was attended by members of the Unity Party's National Executive Committee and students from various institutions across the country.
