Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has described Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, as "an extraordinary patriot" as the elder statesman marked his 100th birthday.
In a tribute to commemorate the centenary, Fayemi said Fasoranti's life represents "a century of sacrifice, courage, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, good governance, and the advancement of the Yoruba people within a united, democratic Nigeria."
"It is with profound gratitude to God and deep admiration that I join family, friends, associates, compatriots, and countless admirers across Nigeria and the world in celebrating the centenary anniversary of our father, my principal, an extraordinary patriot, elder statesman, democracy activist and Afenifere leader," he said.
Fayemi noted that attaining the age of 100 with dignity and continued relevance to national life is remarkable, describing Fasoranti as a father figure, mentor, counsellor and moral compass whose convictions "never shifted with convenience."

"Over the years, I have benefitted immensely from his wisdom, encouragement, and steadfast belief in principled leadership. In moments of political uncertainty and national turbulence, Baba remained one of those rare voices whose convictions never shifted with convenience," he added.
He also highlighted Fasoranti's contributions to education and human development, noting his impact as a teacher, administrator and community leader.
"As a teacher, administrator, and community leader, he understood early that the future of any society rests on the quality of its education and the moral character of its citizens. His life of simplicity, humility, and service continues to inspire generations," Fayemi said.
The former governor further described Fasoranti as an astute politician and a believer in the vision of Obafemi Awolowo, recalling his role in the Action Group during the First Republic and the Unity Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic.
He noted that Fasoranti served as Commissioner for Finance in the administration of late Adekunle Ajasin in old Ondo State and remained resolute in defending democratic freedoms during military rule.
Fayemi also praised his leadership in Afenifere, saying he consistently advocated restructuring, equity and true federalism as foundations for national stability and inclusive development.
"At 100 years, Baba Fasoranti remains a towering symbol of integrity in public life. His life is a testament to the fact that true leadership is measured not by power or position, but by sacrifice, consistency and fidelity to principle," he said, while praying for continued peace, strength and joy for the elder statesman.
