Nigeria: Galaxy Backbone Leads Continental Dialogue On Digital Public Infrastructure

Nigeria's Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) is set to play a central role in the upcoming high-level continental engagement with the theme "Building Africa's Digital Foundations Together," scheduled to hold from May 19 to 21, 2026 in Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency, the strategic engagement, organised in collaboration with Co-Develop, Smart Africa, and MicroSave Consulting, will bring together policymakers, technology leaders, development partners, and digital transformation stakeholders from 11 African countries to advance conversations around Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), digital identity, secure connectivity, interoperability, and inclusive digital ecosystems across Africa.

Speaking ahead of the engagement, the managing director /CEO, Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, noted that the event presents an important opportunity to deepen collaboration among African nations, strengthen regional partnerships, and share practical approaches to building resilient and inclusive digital ecosystems that support economic growth and improved public service delivery.

Nigeria's investment in digital infrastructure will be on display during the event as participating delegates will undertake a strategic tour of Galaxy Backbone's digital infrastructure and facilities on the sidelines of the event.

The showcase will provide delegates with firsthand insight into Nigeria's digital transformation journey and the critical infrastructure powering secure government and private sector connectivity, cloud services, digital platforms, and public sector innovation, the statement added.

The infrastructure tour is billed to further highlight GBB's growing role as a key enabler of digital governance and trusted digital infrastructure in Nigeria and across the continent.

According to the statement, the delegates will have strategic discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on strengthening Africa's digital future through collaboration, innovation, and sustainable digital public infrastructure.

"Galaxy Backbone's participation and hosting role reinforces its commitment to supporting Nigeria's digital transformation agenda while contributing to broader continental efforts aimed at accelerating Africa's digital economy," the statement said.
