WHAT: Africa Day celebration to kick off the 2026 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group

The African Development Bank Group and the government of Brazzaville, in partnership with the African Union Commission, will host an Africa Day celebration to mark the official kickoff of the Bank Group's 2026 Annual Meetings. Africa Day brings together participants of the Annual Meetings and Bank staff to showcase Africa's cultural richness, contemporary creativity, and enduring sense of identity.

The celebration of Africa will take place under the theme "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063" in alignment with the African Union's theme for 2026.

The event will be attended by Heads of State and Government, Bank Governors, Executive Directors, Management and Staff, Diplomatic Corps in Congo, Development partners, the private sector, civil society youth in Congo, the media and interested participants from around the world in the Republic of Congo will also attend.

Africa Day will take place on 25 May 2026 from 14:30 to 16:30 GMT+1 at the Mfoa Plenary Hall, Kintélé International Conference Centre in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.

Participants across headquarters, regional and country offices, as well as those attending the Annual Meetings, are encouraged to join in African attire, with the celebration also available to follow live online.

It will feature a programme of activities highlighting Africa's cultural heritage and richness and deepen appreciation for African arts through powerful visual and emotional expression.

The centerpiece of the celebration, the African Cultural Heritage Show, will offer staff and attendees an opportunity to show off traditional and modern African attire representing their countries.

In addition, the "Words for Africa" live art installation, led by a young local artist, will invite participants both in person and online to contribute three words reflecting their vision for Africa onto a collective visual canvas, connecting physical and digital audiences in a shared expression of ideas.
