Nigeria: ADC Faction Dissolves Mark-Led NWC, Installs Bashir As Chairman

The Dumebi Kachikwu-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday dissolved the Sen. David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) at its special convention in Abuja.

The motion to dissolve the NWC was moved by the Benue ADC Chairman, Allias Adiku, during the party's non-elective convention and was seconded by the Zamfara ADC Chairman, Kabiru Garuba.

Members unanimously adopted the motion through a voice vote, after which the convention approved a new leadership for the party for the next four years.

The convention also ratified the party's 2018 constitution, as amended, as the operational framework guiding its activities and administration.

Abdulkadir Bashir was elected as the new National Chairman, while Johnny Derek emerged as Deputy National Chairman and Kennedy Odion as National Secretary. Kingsley Ogah was also elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

In his acceptance speech, Bashir called for unity, fairness and inclusive leadership, urging members to work together to rebuild and strengthen the party.

He said he joined active politics in 1999 and had previously contested as a vice-presidential candidate under the United Democratic Party before joining the ADC.

Bashir, who said he played a key role in building the party's structure in Katsina State and across the North-West, attributed the ADC's internal crisis to selfish interests and attempts by some former leaders to retain control of the party.

He urged aggrieved members to forgive past differences and return to the party to contribute to its growth and national relevance.
