In response to questions from students and faculty, she reiterated that diplomacy should be grounded in principles.
Liberia has effectively navigated a multipolar, competitive world by prioritizing principles over ideology. The nation believes in and stands for a just and peaceful world, emphasizing commitment to multilateralism as outlined in the UN Charter, Minister Nyanti concluded.
At the invitation of a Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, Liberia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, paid an official visit to China from May 18 to 22.
During her visit, the two ministers held bilateral talks on Tuesday, 19 May. Later that evening, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti was honored at a dinner hosted by Mr. Wang Yi, who is also a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Discussions underscored Liberia's dedication to enhancing bilateral relations with China, expanding multilateral cooperation, and improving coordination to advance reforms of the United Nations Security Council and its subsidiary bodies for greater effectiveness and inclusivity.
This visit embodies the vision of His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and President Xi Jinping, which has elevated Liberia-China relations to a "strategic partnership," as proposed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit. Liberia aims to further deepen collaboration to achieve "win-win" outcomes for both nations.
Minister Beysolow-Nyanti also held discussions with Mr. Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA). CIDCA is responsible for setting strategic guidelines, policies, and plans; coordinating and advising on major aid initiatives; identifying priority programs; and overseeing their implementation.
She also traveled to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, where she visited the Liberia Chamber of Commerce trade office and later met with Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Mayor Qin Weizhong, and municipal officials. These meetings followed up on the April 2025 visit of a Chinese delegation to Liberia, which advanced cooperation in trade, investment, cultural exchange, and agriculture.
The visit to Shenzhen continues the momentum from the inaugural China-Liberia Trade and Investment Promotion Forum, held in September 2024 under the theme "China and Liberia Cooperating in Building a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the Spirit of FOCAC."
The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia organized the forum with support from the African Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
The Foreign Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, and the Assistant Minister and Chief of Office Staff, Madam Saran Kaba Jones.
