Nigeria: Expert Urges Varsities to Produce Deep Thinkers for Rapidly Evolving Ai World

22 June 2026

The President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), Professor Clement Dzidonu has said the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and digital transformation requires graduates who are capable of independent thinking, continuous learning, innovation, and responsible leadership.

According to Dzidonu, universities exist not merely to award degrees but to develop capable individuals that can think critically, solve problems creatively, adapt to changing circumstances, and contribute meaningfully to society. He reaffirmed AIT's commitment to producing graduates who are technically competent, ethically grounded, intellectually curious, and globally competitive.

Dzidonu said this during the institute's matriculation ceremony held at the University's Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, in Ghana.

The institute officially welcomed a new cohort of students into its academic community during the matriculation ceremony.

Speaking on the theme: 'Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference', Dzidonu encouraged students to embrace the Opportunity-Possibility-Difference (OPD) perspective by recognising opportunities, exploring possibilities, and creating meaningful differences in their lives and communities. He urged them to look beyond examinations and certificates and focus on building capability, character, and courage.
