Some angry youths on Wednesday set ablaze an operational vehicle belonging to the Kano State Roads and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) following an accident at the Kwanar Dawaki area of the state.
The youths have accused the KAROTA personnel of causing the accident at Kwanar Dawaki, a town located a few kilometres on the Kano-Zaria expressway.
The Deputy Managing Director of the agency, Auwal Lawal Aranposu, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
He explained that the accident involved a Sharon car and a trailer, saying the trailer hit the car, causing it to tumble several times.
He said, "At that time, our personnel even tried to arrest the trailer driver, but he escaped.
"It was at that point that the suspected thugs attacked our personnel who were working close to the place, thinking they were the ones who caused the accident. As a result, they burnt our vehicle," Aranposu said.
He stressed that KAROTA officials were not responsible for the accident, noting that they assisted in taking the victims to the hospital.
Aranposu further confirmed that no life was lost in the incident, while those injured in the crash are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
