Liberia: Determine Girls, World Girls Set for Bettomax Champions Cup Opener

MONROVIA — The inaugural women's edition of the Bettomax Champions Cup tips off Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Tusa Field, with defending league champion Determine Girls facing League Cup runner-up World Girls in the opening match.

Determine Girls and World Girls will meet at 2 p.m. Bushrod Queens will then face Senior Professionals FC at 4 p.m.

The second leg is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14, at the same time and venue.

The teams with the highest aggregate scores over the two legs will advance to the final on Sunday, Aug. 16.

Four spots in the women's competition were initially reserved for the top finishers in the 2025-26 Liberia Football Association Women's Upper League. Bushrod Queens entered the tournament after league runner-up Shaita Angels withdrew, citing player fatigue.

The men's competition begins Saturday, Aug. 15, with Watanga FC taking on Paynesville FC at 2 p.m., followed by Discoveries FC against Bea Mountain FC at 4 p.m.

The draw, held two weeks ago, placed league champion Watanga in Group A alongside Discoveries, Paynesville, and last season's runner-up, Bea Mountain.

Defending champion Heaven Eleven FC leads Group B, which also includes Wologizi FC, LPRC Oilers, and LISCR FC.

Heaven Eleven returns as the defending champion after replacing FC Fassell, which withdrew from the competition because of preseason commitments. Despite finishing ninth in the 2025-26 LFA First Division, Heaven Eleven retained its place as defending champion.

Each participant will receive a $2,500 preparation grant, a 25% increase from last year.

The men's champion will receive $12,000, up 20% from the inaugural edition, while the runner-up will take home $6,000.
