Nigeria: NBA Election Observers Arrive Osun Ahead of Saturday's Election

The NBA said it deployed the election observers to monitor the electoral process and promote compliance with electoral laws and the rule of law.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has deployed its National Election Observers Team to Osun State ahead of Saturday's governorship election, as the association prepares to monitor the electoral process and promote adherence to the rule of law during the exercise.

The team led by Festus Okoye, Chairman of the NBA Election Working Group, that the national observers arrived in Osun State on Friday to monitor the conduct of Saturday's governorship election.

The association said in a statement that the deployment "underscores the association's commitment to promoting credible elections, respect for the rule of law and compliance with established electoral processes."

NBA's communication officer, Stella Charles, said in a statement shared with PREMIUM TIMES that the NBA delegation had a stop-over in Akure, Ondo State, on their way to Osun State.

They were received by members of Akure branch of the NBA led by its chairman, Onimisi Umar, alongside members of the branch's executive committee.

The deployment comes amid heightened attention to security, political tensions and the credibility of the electoral process ahead of the election.

The NBA has been involved in election observation as part of efforts by professional and civil society organisations to monitor compliance with electoral laws and document developments during elections.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, with candidates of 14 political parties cleared to contest the poll, including the incumbent candidate, Ademola Adeleke of Accord Party, and Bola Oyebamiji of All Progressives Congress (APC).
