ABUJA: Newly appointed Director General of the All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul'Aziz Yari, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will continue to honour his electioneering promises, assuring Nigerians the campaign ahead of 2027 would be built on the same credibility.

The former Zamfara State governor and ex-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) made the assurance on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he was received by a jubilant crowd of party faithful shortly after touching down from an overseas trip, his first public appearance since his appointment was announced the previous day.

"I want to assure Nigerians that whatever promise we made during campaign, we shall keep to our promises. Today we have seen him [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] as President today and by God's grace he shall be the president come 2027," Yari told reporters.

He read the size of his airport reception as an endorsement of that message, describing the gathering as an act of solidarity and prayer rather than routine political theatre.

"The crowd is here to pray for me and for the success of Mr President. Our party is synonymous with keeping to our words. We pray that Almighty Allah will give him [the President] the wisdom to lead this country. We assure Nigerians that we shall fulfill all our campaign promises," he said.

Looking beyond the immediate contest, the campaign chief expressed hope that the APC's hold on power would extend well past Tinubu's second term.

"We pray that our party will continue to be the party to lead the country after President Tinubu's second term," he said.

Yari's appointment is widely read within party circles as a calculated move by the APC leadership to tighten political structures across the northern region and centralise campaign operations ahead of 2027, a task his backers say his decades of legislative and executive experience make him well suited for.
