Nigeria: Kidnapping - Kogi Govt Launches Workplace Security Sensitisation for Workers

The Kogi State Government has commenced a workplace security sensitisation campaign across the 21 local government areas to encourage workers to remain security-conscious and make informed decisions that protect their jobs and welfare.

The programme, held under the theme, "Workplace Security: Protection, Sensitisation and Preparedness Against Banditry and Kidnapping," began in Okene Local Government Area.

Addressing workers in the Central Senatorial District yesterday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, said the initiative was designed to sensitise local government workers on vigilance, preparedness and workplace security.

The former NLC chairman in the state also urged workers to remain alert and make informed political choices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the security measures introduced by the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had helped create a conducive environment for workers and foster industrial harmony across the state.

"Security is a collective responsibility, either in the workplace or beyond. Government is committed to providing leadership and resources, but cannot do it alone," Edoka said.

He added, "The political will is the foundation of all security progress. Governor Ododo is ready for all-round protection of the people and property. The workers' job is not an exception."

Edoka urged workers to resist the "politics of mischief" and prioritise policies and programmes that directly affect their welfare and job security.

In their remarks, the NULGE chairmen of Okene and Ogori-Magongo LGAs, Comrades Yakubu Ishaq and Alabi Shole, respectively, commended the campaign and pledged to ensure its objectives were achieved at the grassroots.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of Ogori-Magongo LGA, Mr Williams, described organised labour as a dependable ally in democracy and called for continued engagement between government and workers.

The Kogi State NLC chairman, Comrade Gabriel Amari, described the grassroots security sensitisation as timely.

He urged workers to sustain the cordial relationship with the government and continue to support an administration that, in his words, "has not disappointed them."
