The African Development Bank Group welcomes the release of the 2026 Multilateral Development Banks Comparison Report, which shows that MDBs maintained strong capital and liquidity positions throughout 2025, enabling them to remain a stable source of financing for their clients.

Produced through the Global Risk and Finance Forum (GRaFF), the report brings together financial data from 15 participating MDBs, including the African Development Bank Group. It is published by the Asian Development Bank on behalf of GRaFF and was jointly coordinated with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The report provides shareholders and G20 members with a common reference point for understanding MDB financial positions. It supports the G20 recommendation for annual capital benchmarking as part of broader efforts to strengthen MDBs' capacity to finance development.

"Strong financial foundations underpin our ability to support Africa's development ambitions," said Hassatou Diop N'Sele, Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the African Development Bank Group. "This report strengthens transparency and helps inform how MDBs can use their capital more effectively while preserving the resilience needed to support countries through difficult economic conditions."

Drawing primarily on year-end 2025 data, the report examines capital adequacy, liquidity, portfolio characteristics, risk transfers and credit rating assessments. This edition also introduces trend analysis of selected financial ratios.

The report emphasises that differences in MDB mandates and business models should guide interpretation of the data, and that individual indicators should not be used in isolation when comparing financial strength.
