Nigeria: NUC Approves Aviation Management, Aerospace Engineering At Baze University

25 October 2026

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the introduction of Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering as undergraduate programmes at Baze University, Abuja, beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval, conveyed in a letter dated October 16, 2026, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Dr Ayuba Mohammed, authorises the university to run both programmes on a full-time basis at its main campus in Abuja.

According to the commission, the approval followed a resource verification exercise by a panel of experts to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programmes, as well as an inspection of the university's Aviation School.

The NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, subsequently approved the programmes after considering the panel's report.

Aviation Management will be domiciled in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be offered under the Faculty of Engineering.

The programmes are expected to expand the university's undergraduate offerings in areas linked to aviation development, technological innovation and the aerospace industry.

The approval also complements the university's ongoing development of an Aviation School on a site measuring more than 88 hectares in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.

The facility, which is at an advanced stage of development, forms part of the university's investment in aviation education and specialised training.

While the newly approved programmes will operate at the university's main campus, the Aviation School in Bwari is a separate but complementary project aimed at expanding its capacity in aviation-related education.

The university is expected to commence the two undergraduate programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.
