The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Benue South, Daniel Onjeh, has congratulated retired Major General John Enenche on his appointment as Director of Security and Intelligence of the party's National Campaign Council, describing the choice as a "square peg in a square hole".
Onjeh said Enenche's experience in military operations, intelligence, strategic planning and national security made him suitable for the role ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement reacting to the appointment, the former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students said he was particularly pleased that Enenche, whom he described as an elder brother and father figure, hailed from Orokam District in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, like himself.
"For me, this appointment brings a special kind of joy. General John Enenche is an elder brother and a father figure to me. We are kinsmen from the same Orokam District in Ogbadibo Local Government Area," he said.

Onjeh described Enenche as a patriotic Nigerian, a committed party member and a distinguished military officer whose years of service had prepared him for the responsibility.
Enenche began his military career in 1984 after gaining admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 35 Regular Combatant Course.
His previous assignments include Commanding Officer of the 14 Field Engineers Regiment, Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Battalion 11 under the United Nations Mission in Liberia, Director of Defence Information, pioneer Coordinator of Defence Media Operations and Commandant of the Nigerian Army War College.
He holds a degree in Geology and Mining from the University of Jos, a master's degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan and a PhD in Leadership and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, completed in 2025.
Onjeh said the demands of security and intelligence in a nationwide political campaign required sound judgement, discipline and the ability to anticipate risks.
"I believe he has what it takes to do the job, and I congratulate the leadership of our great party for making such a fitting choice," he said.
The NDC candidate also expressed hope that Enenche's appointment would signal greater recognition for Benue South under an NDC-led federal government.
He said the senatorial district had many qualified men and women whose experience and contributions to national development deserved recognition through appointments to strategic positions.
Onjeh, a former chairman of the Governing Board of the Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, also congratulated the Director-General of the NDC National Campaign Council, Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim, and other members of the council.
Describing himself as a loyal NDC member, he pledged his support and cooperation towards the party's success in the 2027 elections.
He wished Enenche success in his new assignment, praying for wisdom, strength and good health as he assumes the responsibility.
