Nigeria: Korea Reaffirms Strategic Partnership With Nigeria

26 October 2026

The Republic of Korea has reaffirmed its commitment to driving sustainable development, technological innovation, and youth empowerment in Nigeria as an equal partner.

Speaking at Korea's National Day reception on October 23, 2026, in Abuja, Korean Ambassador to Nigeria H.E. Jeong Yoan highlighted Korea's historic transformation from a war-torn nation in 1953 to a global economic power.

He emphasised that mutual support and international solidarity were central to Korea's survival and remain key to its foreign policy.

"We do not come with all the answers. We come as friends and partners, ready to share, learn, and grow together," Ambassador Jeong stated, identifying Nigeria's vibrant youth population as its greatest asset.

Underlining this developmental synergy, the Ambassador pointed to key collaborative milestones, including the recently ground-broken Abuja Centre for Entrepreneurship--a joint project by KOICA, SMEDAN, and UNDP designed to nurture local start-ups.

Additionally, he said Korea's Smart School initiative alongside UBEC has reached over 8,000 Nigerian children and trained 300 educators, while KOICA-FAO partnerships continue to pioneer green agricultural jobs.

He said major Korean conglomerates including Daewoo E&C, LG, Samsung, Hyundai, and Solpia also continue to deepen their footprint in Nigeria's energy, manufacturing, and digital technology sectors.

Reflecting on the cultural bridge uniting both nations--from K-pop and Korean dramas to Afrobeats and Nollywood--Ambassador Jeong called for global unity, grounding the bilateral relationship in shared human values: "One Heaven. One Earth. One Humanity."
