Nigerian Government Looking for an Image Makeover

The Nigerian government has signed a $1.2 million contract with a Washington public relations firm to change "the international and local media narrative" around efforts to rescue school girls abducted by Boko Haram, according to a contract document signed June 13, as reported by a Washington, DC-based newspaper, The Hill. Reporting the story in Nigeria, Premium Times calls the contract an attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan's administration "to whitewash its inept handling" of the kidnapping. Lanny Davis, an executive vice president involved in the contract at the firm, Levick was a senior aide to former President Bill Clinton.
