Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, is a city under siege from multiple shocks. Innovative uses of mobile technology - and a programme to support girls - are lifelines in the fight against Ebola. Messages include telling people not to fear health workers in protective suits. Unlike many text message initiatives, this one allows recipients to reply with questions and can be geo-targeted to customize information. The system can also provide alerts about floods and other hazards.
