Opposition Supporters, Ugandan Police Battle as Meeting Blocked

Supporters of Kizza Besigye, a former presidential candidate, engaged officers in six-hour running battles in Soroti after police blocked a meeting he had organised. The battles, in which supporters threw stones at armed police officers who had cordoned off the venue, left scores injured and some in hospital.
