Nigerian Senate Drops Bill Seeking to Reorder Elections

The National Assembly had proposed that presidential elections be held last with lawmakers wanting their elections to be held first, followed by that of state lawmakers and governors. The bill was rejected by President Muhammadu Buhari who declined assent on the premise that it infringes on the powers of the Independent National Electoral Commission to organise and supervise elections. The amendment was feared to have the potential to weaken the president, if presidential poll is conducted last.
