Cloves, Seaweed Join Other Heavyweights in Zanzibar Exports

Thanks to an improvement in exports of cloves and seaweed, Zanzibar's earnings increased by 21.8% in the year ending July 2020. A total of 3,900 tons were exported compared to 200 tonnes in the same period in 2019. This development is a surprising change for Zanzibar, which has relied heavily on tourism as its economic lifeline. A Bank of Tanzania review has indicated that earnings from exports of goods and services reached U.S.$230.9 million by July 2020.
