Nigeria's Jigawa Women Chip In to Buy Much-Needed Ambulance

Tired of waiting for the government to provide basic health facilities, women from the Baddo community in Jigawa State have done what they considered the next best thing. In August 2019, they agreed to contribute money themselves to buy a new vehicle they now use as an ambulance. The 21 groups, made up of 20 members each, contributed U.S.$2,61 (N1,000) each for two months, to buy the vehicle.

The people of Bordo village modeled the purchased vehicle after the ‘Haihuwa Lafiya’ program of Jigawa state government.
