Is Technology Boosting Athletic Performance of Elite Athletes?

Athletic records have been falling this past few weeks. Among the achievements are the brilliant performances of Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei who on August 14 at the Monaco Diamond League, smashed Ethiopian athlete, Kenenisa Bekele's 5,000m world record that stood for 16 years. Cheptegei went on to smash another Bekele record in the 10,000m event in Spain, that stood for 15 years. Ethiopia's Letesenbet Gidey slashed four seconds off compatriot Tirunesh Dibaba's previous record in the women's 5,000m which was set in 2008. Steve Omondi writes in the Daily Nation, that it is the manner in which Cheptegei and Gidey blew up these records, that has stirred up a storm in athletics, reason being, their performances were aided by Nike's controversial track spikes and Wavelight technology.
