Nigeria Commission to Enforce Levy on Broadcast Stations

Broadcast stations had until August 24, 2022 to renew their licences or be taken off air. The head of Nigeria's National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Mallam Illelah, announced on August 19, 2022 that the broadcasting regulator would revoke the licences of over 50 broadcast houses for unpaid fees. It is a move that Nigeria's journalist union said at the time was "ill advised".

Now the NBC has announced that all licenced broadcasting stations, owned, established or operated by private individuals, federal, state and local government across the country, will Be liable to pay a statutory levy of 2.5%, writes Olawale Ajimotokan for This Day.
