Authorities in Chad have refused to carry out a credible investigatation of the the killings and massive crackdown against large-scale protests in Chad in October 2022, Human Rights Watch said in a statement issued on the first anniversary of the protesters' deaths.
In N'Djamena, rights groups and political opposition leaders organized protests to commemorate Friday's anniversary. And in Washington, DC, the chairman and ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee decried the lack of accountability for " for these heinous acts and said in a statement: "We stand with Chadians on the first anniversary of 'Black Thursday.'" The State Department also issued a renewed call for "full investigations of these events and accountability for anyone responsible for human rights violations and abuses."
