Inclusive Peacebuilding - Empowering Women As Agents of Peace

Nell Bolton, Catholic Relief Services' technical director for equity, inclusion, and peacebuilding, emphasises the importance of including women's voices at the peacebuilding table in Africa. She argues that women are essential stakeholders in society, not just victims.

Catholic Relief Services's peacebuilding approach prioritises social cohesion, justice, inclusion, and participation to address the root causes of conflict, such as marginalisation, exclusion, lack of trust, and governance issues.

Bolton highlights successful peacebuilding initiatives that empower women as agents of reconciliation in conflict-affected regions. She also discusses the connection between gender equity and peacebuilding, sharing examples of programmes that promote gender equity at the household level, resulting in increased social cohesion and women's participation in conflict resolution.

On October 25, 2023, the United Nations marked the 23rd anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which recognises women's leadership and unique roles in peace processes.
