Fighting Continues After Bridge in Sudan's Capital Destroyed

Battles are continuing in Jebel Aulia, a city in southern Khartoum state, causing the mass displacement of citizens towards White Nile state. Radio Dabanga reports that clashes are also being reported in Omdurman and El Obeid in North Kordofan.

On Saturday November 11, Khartoum's Shambat Bridge, which forms a strategic link between Omdurman and Khartoum North (Bahri), was destroyed. The act has been condemned as a war crime by Yassir Arman, head of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North Democratic Revolutionary Movement and spokesperson for the mainstream Forces for Freedom and Change Central Council.

After the bridge collapsed, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Armed Forces issued statements, each blaming the opposing party for the destruction.
