Gabon Elections Will Take Place In 2025 - Junta
The Gabonese military junta has outlined plans for elections and end of the transition, in an address on state television.
Junta Spokesperson, Ulrich Manfoumbi said the Cabinet adopted an "indicative" transition timeframe that will need to be approved at a national conference in 2024.
The military leaders ousted former president Ali Bongo in August 2023, after disputing the outcome of an election. The Bongo family ruled Gabon since 1967 and opponents said that he failed to share the country's oil wealth with its two million citizens.
The military junta has also accused Bongo's wife and eldest son of manipulating the former president, who suffered from a stroke in 2018.
