Mozambique's Electoral Body Proposes Municipal Election Re-Run

Mozambique's date for the municipal election rerun in Marromeu and in portions of Guruè, Milange, and Nacala-Porto is anticipated to be announced by the Council of Ministers. The rerun is scheduled for December 10, 2023 according to the National Electoral Commission's (CNE) plan. In accordance with the law, elections deemed invalid must be rerun by the second Sunday following the Constitutional Council's ruling, which appears to be broken by this plan.

The Mozambican Liberation Front, known by its Portuguese abbreviation Frelimo, is currently facing one of its toughest tests after foreign observers expressed alarm over possible tampering with the results of municipal elections held on October 11, 2023. The voting and counting saw the governing party win all but one of Mozambique's 65 municipalities.
