A Turning Point? Sudan Leaders Burhan, Hemedti Agree on Talks

Sudan's General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan, and his rival Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (aka Hemedti), commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), have agreed to hold a face-to-face meeting. The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is expected to make preparations and designate a team of senior diplomats and interlocutors for the talks, Ashenafi Endale writes for The Reporter.

Sudan has been thrown into conflict for nearly a year, following the ouster of former dictator Omar al-Bashir and a disagreement between Al-Burhan and Hemedti. Thousands of people have fled the fighting. The U.S., Human Rights Watch and the UN have accused both sides of atrocities and crimes against humanity.

Meanwhile Sudan has ordered 15 UAE diplomats to leave the country within 48 hours, writes Jerry Chifamba for AllAfrica.
