'Vulnerable' Sudanese Civilians Allegedly Recruited for War

Sudanese civilians, who are in a vulnerable position since losing their livelihoods because of war, are allegedly being called on to counter a future Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attack on River Nile state.

The governor of the River Nile state, Mohamed El Badawi pledged to crowds gathered in the state capital Ed Damer to support the SAF and protect the state against all threats.150,000 residents have reportedly volunteered to conscript to the SAF since the call, including Beja and Rashaida tribes.

Grassroots and civil society groups in River Nile state opposed calls by the governor and authorities to join the SAF calling for authorities to stop arming civilians, especially minors, whether in the River Nile state or anywhere.
