Somali's Al-Shabaab Kill One, Capture 6 On UN Helicopter

The UN says it remains concerned about the fate of staff travelling on its helicopter in Somalia that reportedly was seized by Al-Shabaab militants.

The helicopter was flying from Beledwenye in Hirshabelle state to Wisil in Galmudug for what officials said was a medical evacuation. It landed in al-Shabaab territory in central Somalia near Xiindheere in Galmudug state, Somali officials told VOA Somali.

Deutsche Welle reports that one person has been killed and several more abducted after the helicopter made an emergency landing.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting the Somali government since 2006, aiming to establish an Islamic state.
